Open 2 weeks, closed 6 months, Copper Crow is preparing for the July relaunch

ALBANY — The Copper Crow, a restaurant in the city’s warehouse district that was fully open for two weeks before a mid-January flood shuttered it for months of renovations, will reopen on July 15, the owner said Jason Pierce, who also owns Savoy Taproom on Lark Street.

The burst pipes caused the January 16 flood that sprayed approximately 65,000 gallons of water throughout the restaurant and bar, located in a building at 904 Broadway that previously housed two Irish bars: Molly O’Bryans, which lasted from August 2019 until the pandemic hit seven months later, and Graney’s Stout for eight years before that.

Pierce said Monday that damages totaled about $225,000, plus $140,000 in lost revenue and other costs. He said he has received around half of what was owed to him by insurance companies and expects full compensation to take several more months.

The interior is essentially the same, with minor tweaks made to reflect deficiencies identified while the copper crow was open, starting with takeout in November, abbreviated days and hours in December, and an official launch in the evening. New Year’s Eve. Staff have been restrained and will number up to 50 when it reopens, including head chef Tim Gates and sous chef Kevin FX Callahan, Pierce said. The eclectic international menu will be largely similar to pre-flood offerings, which included a mix of Asian (Thai beef noodles), American (smoked blue fish croquettes), Latin (Venezuelan asado negro) and Middle Eastern dishes. (roasted eggplant with tahini yogurt, sumac and pomegranate).

Hours will be 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, closing weekdays around midnight, later Friday and Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday.

The Copper Crow joins a growing warehouse district that already boasts a vibrant restaurant scene and will be bolstered by two recently announced major developments that will bring at least five businesses and 350 apartments to the area, including the redevelopment of the building of the Huck Finn furniture store and its surrounding property. A restaurant building across from Copper Crow at 897 Broadway that briefly housed bars called Vintage and NowAre was recently purchased, with the new owner saying he hopes to bring in a restaurant tenant.
