New cases remain high as Berrien County outbreak continues | New
New cases of COVID-19 declined slightly but remained high, as Berrien County tracks the state’s outbreak.
Berrien’s seven-day average for new cases from November 17 to 23 was about 439 new cases per 100,000 population, according to state data. Last week there were 452 new cases per 100,000 population. The week before, there were 200 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The county remained in the high transmission category of COVID-19 for the 15th consecutive week. The percentage of positive tests in Berrien County was 24.6% on Wednesday. Last week it was 19.4%.
One person died of COVID-19 in Berrien, from November 17 to 23.
The number of COVID-positive patients at Spectrum Health Lakeland has increased from last week.
There were about 51 patients admitted each day, Friday. This is the total admitted, no new admissions each day. That’s up from the daily average for the past three weeks: 45, 37 and 34.
Vaccines administered fell from last week to this week, according to state data. However, vaccine data was not released on Friday due to the holidays.
Berrien County COVID-19 vaccine suppliers administered 248 doses this week, between last Saturday and Monday, up from 1,732 doses the week before. The previous week, 1,650 doses had been administered.
As of Thursday, 149,395 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine had been administered in Berrien County, of which 67,907 were second doses, according to state data.
This equates to about 56.6% of residents of Berrien County (5 years and older) with at least one dose of the vaccine, and about 51.1% being fully vaccinated.

Cass, Van Buren
Van Buren and Cass counties remained in strong transmission over the past week.
Van Buren County recorded 486 new cases of COVID-19 this week and one new death. The county had recorded 526 new cases last week and 183 new cases the week before.
Cass County recorded 238 new cases of COVID-19 this week and three new deaths. The county had registered 228 new cases last week and 155 new cases the week before.
Van Buren County’s percentage of positivity fell from 22.7% last week to 25.1% this week, according to state data.
Cass County’s positivity percentage fell from 23.7% from last week to 26% this week.
As of Thursday, Van Buren County had 60.3% of residents (5 years and older) with at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 55.1% fully vaccinated, according to state data.
As of Thursday, the county was at 59.9% with one dose and 54.9% fully vaccinated.
As of Thursday, Cass County had 40 percent of residents (5 years and older) with at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 35.9 percent fully vaccinated.
As of Thursday, the county was at 39.9% with one dose and 35.8% fully vaccinated.
